Weight Management

The hospital provides a weight management program for our clients pets.  Once your pet has had a check over with one of our veterinarians they may recommend your pet starts our weight management program.

What our program involves:

• Our weight loss program is complimentary and run by our nurses.

• Before your first visit you will be asked to fill out a food diary for a week,  this allows us to see what your pet eats and how much it costs you.

• At your 1st visit your pet will be given a target weight and start on a specially formulated prescription diet for weight loss.

• Our nurses will guide you with how much to feed, what treats can be used and how much it will cost you per day.

• Your pet will then be seen for regular weigh checks to make sure they are on target.  At these appointments changes may be made depending on your pets progress.

Our nurses will be there to help you every step of the way and have had training in nutrition and weight management.

Appointments and guidance are free of charge, the only cost to you is the specialised prescription diet for your pet.

Why is it important for your pet to be a healthy weight?

If your pet is overweight they have an increased risk to their health and quality of life.  Common conditions we see in overweight pets are:

• Heart disease

• Diabetes

• Osteoarthritis

• Reduced activity

• Increased risk of some types of cancer.
